Our Seven Friends, Seven Faiths
Bible study has just finished. Wow … we had a great time
and learned so much. There were eight children and four adults
who participated; we
were so sad when it was over.
The study centered around a boy named Josh and his six friends,
all of different faiths. We were fascinated to find out that
our Christian faith has much in common with others that we studied.
We learned about celebrations and Holy days and what makes them
special. We learned some of the symbols of other faiths, as well
as some of the traditions that go along with them. As a group,
we made giant photo cubes as a way of showing what we learned
about these symbols and traditions. They have been on display
outside the sanctuary.
The children were so curious about Josh and his friends. This
was a great way to teach our children tolerance, understanding
and love of others. An additional benefit was that we came to
understand some of things we do, as Christians, a little better.
We learned about Lent, Easter, Pentecost, Advent and Christmas.
The number one surprise to our children was that Easter is the
holiest day in the church year, not Christmas!
Each week we began our study with prayer, dinner (Yum!) and music.
Our final study concluded with an extensive chocolate buffet; it
was amazing! In the weeks that we spent together we built a "community,"
getting to know each other along the way. We hope to be able to
do another study for 3rd-5th graders in the spring. |
