Jim Bell called the meeting to order. Devotions and the opening prayer were led by Mons Schrantz: The Polar Express, The Gift of Christmas.

Bob Hunt moved and Steve Miller seconded that we excuse Steve B. and Faith. Motion carried.

Treasurer's Report: Balance: $38,124.32. Mons Schrantz moved and Becky Mentzer seconded that we accept the treasurer's report. Motion carried.

Pastor's Report

  • Sympathy was extended to Jeremy Brewer on the death of his grandfather.
  • Joan Edgren's sister-in-law, Helen Spangler, passed away Dec. 15. The Peacemakers' Plus Christmas party at Joan Edgren's is cancelled.
  • Rev. Bell has received a request for a wedding to be held July 29 in the sanctuary by Claire Sharples, a non-member, who is currently serving in the war in Iraq. No church staff is involved. Becky Mentzer made a motion we allow Claire's wedding in our church on July 29 providing a church volunteer will be present to implement safeguards for fees, sound system, building use, etc. Mons Schrantz seconded the motion. Motion carried. Mons and John Tuttle said they'd be present.

Clerk's Report:

  • Approval of Corrected Minutes of November 17, 2004 to a study session
  • Approval of Minutes of November 14 Congregational Meeting for election of Pulpit Nominating Committee and Treasurer Lynn Litwiller.
  • Record of Serving Holy Communion — Sunday, November 28, 2004; home Communion on December 8: Rev. Bell served for Helen and Bob Briggs
  • Record of Baptisms — 3 on Nov. 28, Sanctuary
    • Tyler Alan Frankowiak (Born June 9, 2004)
    • Rebekah Claire Jun (Born June 17, 2004)
    • Grayden Nathaniel Anderson (Born Nov. 28, 2003)

  • Communications
    • Receipt of letter of transfer in from Atkinson Memorial Presbyterian Church for Kelly Ann Ellis (Joined us on October 17, 2004)
    • Receipt of letter for transfer out by Stephen and Debra Schroeder to Resurrection Lutheran Church, December 14, 2004
  • The following committees have submitted minutes: Adult Christian Education Sub-Committee — December 1; Small Groups — December 1; Worship, December 8; Health Ministries — November 16.
  • Committee chairs are reminded to turn in their year-end reports by January 3.

Mons Schrantz moved and Dave Seyller seconded that we accept the Clerk's Report. Motion carried.

Consent Agenda:

Old Business:

  • Update on Pastor Nominating Committee: Kathy Tosh reported that the nominating committee would present the "church information form" to the session on January 26 for approval. It is due in Louisville, Ky. by Feb. 10. The committee is scheduled to meet January 4, 11, 18 and 25.
  • 2005 Budget. Much discussion followed. Rev. Bell alerted the session to the potential challenges to meet the budget by 2006. Becky Mentzer moved, Mons Schrantz seconded that we accept the 2005 Budget of $633,156. Motion carried by a 14-3 vote.
  • Recognition of outgoing session members. Since Steve Miller is moving away, a special honor gift (a tree via the Gifts and Memorials Committee) will be designated for Steve and Kathy. Other outgoing session members recognized were Jay Reece, Becky Mentzer, Jeremy Brewer and Ginny Nappi. Cathy Rinehart will serve again.
  • Reviewed inactive list. Terry Tosh moved, Dave Seyller seconded that we move the following members to the inactive list. Motion carried. They are:

  • A task force for activities of dedicating the building addition will be appointed.
  • Worship Committee requested a "Worship Fair" in the new Great Hall on February 13. Agreed. Other committees are encouraged to do the same on other days.
  • Sign-up for session meting devotions for 2005 was completed.

Rev. Jim asked for joys and concerns and closed the meeting with prayer.

The next meeting is January 26 at 7:00 p.m. Bob Hunt will lead devotions.
