  Congregational Meeting: Minutes
First Presbyterian Church of Normal, Illinois
Sunday, November 20, 2005, 11:40 a.m.
 
             
 

Moderator Jim Bell opened the meeting with prayer. He then stated the purpose of the meeting was to call a designated co-pastor to our pulpit. He introduced the chair of the Pastoral Nominating Committee, Kathy Tosh.

Kathy then asked the Nominating Committee (who were elected at the Congregational Meeting on Nov. 14, 2004) to come forward: Ann Beck, Joan Edgren, Joni Painter, Jeff Stout, John Tuttle, Ginny Clarahan, Paul Harmon, Don Rutledge, and Lloyd Wiesemann.

Kathy introduced Rev. Larry Gaylord ( who had just preached at the 10:30 worship service), his wife, Leslie, and their daughter, Larissa. She then made a motion to elect Lawrence R. Gaylord as a designated co-pastor for First Presbyterian Church, Normal, IL for a period of two years, January 1, 2006 -December 31, 2007. Motion was seconded.

Rev. Gaylord and his family were then escorted from the room while discussion followed. Paper ballots were distributed to church members on which they were to write Yes or No. Ballots were collected. The final tally was 268 YES; 3 NO. Motion carried.

A motion was made and seconded to pay Rev. Gaylord, on accepting the call, the following:

$38,500—Salary
$27,000—Housing
$6,000—Professional Expense Account
$2,000—Continuing Education plus 2 weeks study leave
Full Pension
Full Medical
½ FICA
$1,300—Dental Insurance
One month annual vacation
Full moving expenses
$10,000—housing loan at 5 percent to be paid in full by Dec. 31, 2010 or termination of employment at First Presbyterian Church, Normal, Ill.

Motion carried.

A motion was made and seconded, based on the call of Rev. Gaylord as a designated co-pastor beginning January 1, 2006, that Rev. James G. Bell resigns as pastor in order to be called as co-pastor effective January 1, 2006 with the following terms of call:

$42,500—Salary
$27,000—Housing
$ 6,000—Professional Expense Account
$ 2,000—Continuing Education plus two weeks study leave
Full Pension
Full Medical
½ FICA
$2,200—Dental/Life Insurance
One month annual vacation
Extension of sabbatical of four months after six years as pastor

Motion carried.

A motion was made and seconded that we dismiss the Pastor Nominating Committee with our gratitude. Motion carried.

A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried. The meeting was adjourned at 12:05 p.m. with prayer led by Rev. Gaylord.

Total attendance at the meeting: 352
