Roll Call:

Call to order by Moderator Rev. Jim Bell.

A motion was made and seconded to seat Treasurer, Lynn Litwiller and former Elder Jerry Parsons as guests and to excuse Elders Dave Seyller, Faith TenHaken and Kathy Tosh. Motion carried.

Devotions and prayer were led by Margaret Wolf on being good stewards as elders. Another motion was made and seconded to welcome PNC (Pastor Nominating Committee) members, Ginny Clarahan and Joan Edgren. Motion carried.

Questioning of "Candidate for Commissioned Lay Pastor Training" for Jerry Parsons was done using these discussion comments from the Synod of Lincoln Trails:

  1. His journey of faith that has led him to this point in life
  2. His experience of leadership in the life of both the congregation and the larger church
  3. His desire and ability to communicate the gospel message to groups and to individuals
  4. His sense of call to this particular ministry

A motion was made and seconded to endorse Jerry Parsons to participate in the '06-'07 training program sponsored by the Synod of Lincoln Trails for those preparing to become commissed lay pastors. Motion carried.

The Pastor Nominating Committee report was given by Joni Painter, in the absence of Chairperson Kathy Tosh. She gave the confidential details a candidate who has been selected. November, 10:30 a.m. ( one service) has been selected for the date for the candidate to preach in our church. Following this will be a congregational meeting (11:35 a.m.) to address three separate votes:

  1. Call the candidate as a designated co-pastor starting January 1, 2006.
  2. Approve the salary package for the new co-pastor.
  3. Approve Rev. Jim Bell to become a co-pastor, starting January 1, 2006.

A motion was made and seconded to accept the PNC report as presented. Motion carried. Rev. Bell thanked the committee for their hard work. If the three votes above are approved at the Nov. 20 meeting, then a motion will be requested to dissolve the PNC committee.

Treasurer's Report: Net operating total (year-to-date) $4,187.50. Rev. Bell reviewed different segments of the report.

Pastor's Report: Jim Bell shared the following information:

  • Time changes for some worship services (see minutes of Worship Committee — Oct. 19)
  • Verification for "Study for Session" (the Parish Paper handouts). He said we would periodically be receiving these.
  • Presbytery delegates are needed for Nov. 15 at Jacksonville. They will be voting on making the Restoration Christian Church, a presbytery-wide mission project. Margaret Wolf and Bob Hunt weakly volunteered.
  • Jim and his wife, Priscilla, are helping a small group of IWU college students get organized. They will be meeting Sunday, Oct. 30.

  • Minutes of Committees: Small Group, Sept.; Adult Ed, Sept. 26; Marketing, Sept. 28; First Peacemaking, Oct. 2; Youth Ministry, Oct. 3; Congregational Life, Oct. 3; Children's Ministries, Oct. 6; Small Group, Oct. 10; Membership/Outreach Oct. 10; Property, Oct. 11; Personnel, Oct. 12; Mission, Oct. 12; Stewardship, Oct. 12; Worship, Oct. 19.
    Motions were made and seconded to approved all the above minutes. Motions carried.
  • Communion Served: October 2, 2005. Both Sunday Worship Services
  • Correspondence: Thank you from Rev. Bell for the bonus.

A motion was made and passed to accept the Clerk's Report. Motion carried.

Old Business:

  • A stewardship update was given by Chairperson Judy Lindsay. Commitment Sunday is Nov. 13. It is hoped all pledge cards will be in by that date. Members and friends will receive the cards via mail and also in the small group gatherings.

New Business:

  • Change of Session meeting dates:
    • A motion was made and seconded to move the November meeting to a later date (Nov. 30) in order to accommodate the Stewardship Report. Motion carried.
    • A motion was made and seconded to combine a business and social for the December meeting at the home of George and Margaret Wolf, Co-hosted by Terry and Kathy Tosh, on December 14, 6:30 P.M. Motion carried.
    • A motion was made and seconded to allow artist, Sheila Allen, to sell her cards in order to try to earn $500 for the Presbyterian Disaster Relief. Motion carried.

Notes:

  • John Tuttle reminded everyone of the October 30 (4-7) Wiener roast at the Church.
  • Rev. Bell, Margaret Wolf and Judy Lindsay will attend the Great Rivers Presbytery
  • "Getting Connected" conference this weekend. The Restoration Christian Church will also be represented by Rev. and Mrs. Santana.
  • The Service for Remembrance is Nov. 1 at 7:00 p.m.
  • Membership/Outreach Chair Terry Tosh provided stationery for chairpersons to use.
  • Rob Kelley was thanked for his outstanding sermon presented on Sunday, Oct. 23.

A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 8:35 p.m. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned with prayer led by Rev. Bell.

The next meeting is the fifth Wednesday, November 30 at 7:00 p.m. Jim Bouas will lead devotions.
