Call to order by Moderator Rev. Jim Bell. He welcomed the newly ordained members.

Devotions and prayer were led by Dave Seyller on the parable of the widow and the judge, always continue to pray and never give up.

Roll Call. A motion was made and passed to excuse Bob Hunt.

Treasurer's Report: Net operating total (year-to-date) $10,352.07.

Pastor's Report: Jim Bell shared the following information:

  • Presbytery assembly on Sept. 13: No one was able to attend.
  • Led a funeral for Dr. Knight (non-member).
  • Small Group Conference at Willow Creek attended by Rev. Jim, Phil Enge, and Kelley Marion.
  • all for help for evacuated families from Hurricane Katrina. Would like two groups from our church to sponsor two different units. Contact person is Karen Zangerlee from PATH: 309-829-0909.
  • Jim and his wife, Priscilla, are working with a start-up college students' group initiated by a Illinois Wesleyan student.

A motion was made and passed to accept the Clerk's Report. Motion carried.

Old Business:

  • Kathy Tosh, Pastor Nominating Committee. Kathy asked that the committee be kept in everyone's prayers. Some visits have been made.
  • E'Lane Tufts asked for volunteers to assist with homebound Communion, especially for Westminster Village.

New Business:

E'Lane Tufts — Christian Ed: Youth Ministry request poinsettias sale for mission trip. Motion was made and seconded to allow the Youth Group to sell poinsettias for their mission work. Motion carried.

Terry Tosh — Membership/Outreach, had several requests:

  • Encourage new faces to attend membership class. SESSION MEETING, Oct. 16, 1:45 to accept new members. Excused Lloyd W., Matt W., and Faith T.
  • Need people to help serve lunch Oct. 9 & 16 for this class.
  • Need ideas for chair of new Picture Directory.
  • All to please act as evangelists and greet new people.

Follow up with them AND tell Terry their names. May write this on a Pew Pad, as he reads all of those each Sunday.

Judy Lindsay — Stewardship: Preliminary budget review for 2006. Jim went over ideas for the new budget. He again reminded committee chairs to turn in budget requests. Judy said this year that the stewardship campaign will be meeting with individuals and families and every session member will be asked to assist as "Conductors", as well as others. She also again explained the Unified Budget concept. Note: When the budget is completed, it is the responsibility of the session to approve (vote on it) and then present it to the congregation. (The congregation only VOTES on the annual salary package of the ordained pastors.) Motion was made to endorse the overview BUDGET as seen in the worksheet. Motion carried.

David Seyller, Personnel, requested meeting time without the pastor. Rev. Bell had previously been notified of the purpose. Pastor excused. A motion was made and seconded that the clerk moderate this part of the session meeting. Motion carried.

Dave presented this motion: The personnel committee recommends that Rev. Jim Bell be given a bonus of $5,000 gross (available from the associate pastor budget) in recognition and appreciation for the additional duties he has assumed in the absence of other ordained staff in the period of Sept. 1, 2004 to Sept. 1, 2005. Motion was seconded and carried. The treasurer will be informed by Dave Seyller.

Upcoming dates:

  • Oct. 9 and 16: New Member Orientation (session meeting Oct. 16 at 1:45 p.m.)
  • Oct. 28-29: "Gather at the River Presbytery" registrations due.
  • Oct. 2: Rev. Bell at Delavan Presbyterian Church 150th Anniversary
  • Oct. 2: Communion schedules and format distributed by Joni Painter.
  • Oct. 23: Blessing of the Animals (Health Ministries Committee)
  • Oct. 30: 4-7 p.m. All church bonfire and wiener roast on Great Hall patio.
  • Dec. 10: All-church Carols, Cookies & Cocoa.

A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting. Carried. Meeting adjourned with prayer led by Clerk Margaret Wolf. The next meeting is October 26, 2005. Margaret Wolf will lead devotions.
