Jerry Parsons moved; John Crew seconded a motion to excuse the above members. Carried.

The meeting was opened with prayer and devotions by John Crew with the theme gift and grace of time. (Remaining 2004 devotions assignments: October, Steve Miller; November, Bob Hunt; December, Mons Schrantz)

Pastor's Report

  • Jim reminded the session that after the October 12 Presbytery on Ministry Committee meeting that we can move forward with the election of the PNC — Pastor Nominating Committee.
  • He named the church members who are suffering from serious illnesses.

Treasurer's Report: Balance on hand: $44,617.99

Clerk's Report:

  • Approval of Minutes of Stated Meeting August 25, 2004, 7:00 p.m. Mons Schrantz moved; John Crew seconded motion. Carried.
  • Record of Serving Holy Communion — 1 (September 12, 2004)
  • Communications — None
  • Current Active Membership: 519
  • Installation of Elders — September 19, 2004. Both morning worship services. Class of 2007: Jim Bouas, Judy Lindsay, Cathy Rinehart, John Tuttle, Lloyd Wiesemann. Class of 2005 — Kathy Tosh. Note: Judy and Kathy were ordained for the first time.

Clerk's Consent Agenda — Accepted.

  • Minutes of the following committees as posted:
    Christian Education, September 1; Adult Christian Ed, September 1; Small Group, September 1;

Personnel, September 8; Mission, September 8; Stewardship, September 8; Outreach Sub Comm: Marketing, August 25; Membership, September 13; Property, September 14.; Outreach, August 9; Peacemakers, September 12; Gifts & Memorials, September 21 ; Congregational Life met September 1. Health Ministries met September 21.

Session Agenda

  • Jim asked session members to please be present at the October 24 Stewardship Banquet which will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Make reservations.
  • Jim distributed a sample of the working proposed budget.
  • Mons Schrantz reminded chairpersons to update their committee descriptions.
  • The session also approved that committees may spend up to $2,500 of their Approved Budget without getting session permission. It was $1,000.
  • Jim told about a festival he'd like to do sometime: The Joy & Sharing of Christmas.

THIS WAS A STUDY SESSION.
Rev. Bell led a workshop on this question: "What one thing do I most want to see happen at First Presbyterian in the next five years?"

This is the summary posted: WHO ARE WE? WHO DO WE WANT TO BE?

"First Report"

  1. Safe unified welcoming family.
    Strengthen unity of entire congregation
    People need to be involved through small groups.
  2. Ministry for mission in community. Long term impact.
  3. Music ministries — expand present choirs and add youth voice choir

"Second Report"

  1. Christian education at all levels that is exciting and meaningful, especially children and youth.
  2. Strong worship leadership
  3. Evangelism — bring others in

Jim noted that in the mission task force survey that ministry to older adults was strong.

Joys and Concerns were shared.

Dates:

  • October 10 and 17: New Member Class. Session members needed October 17 at 1:30 p.m.
  • October 24: Stewardship Dinner
  • October 27: next regular Session Meeting

The meeting closed at 9:00 p.m. with prayer led by Rev. Jim Bell.
