ALL Committee Chairs (04 with 05) are to have their 2005 budgets into the office by August 31, 2004.

Mons Schrantz presented the latest status on the pending insurance settlement for the ruined carpet during construction. Session advised Mons to go back to the contractor for more talks.

The purpose of this Session meeting was for STUDY: Planning for Future Staffing Patterns

Rev. Jim Bell, again representing the presbytery, outlined the options for filling the upcoming vacancy of Rev. Vickie Kintzel. Options are associate pastor or designated co-pastor. Much discussion followed.

Jay Reece presented the recommendation of the Personnel Committee. Steve Barwick made the motion to accept their recommendation to hire a "Designated Co-Pastor" based on the mission purpose statement being created by the ad hoc committee. (See suggested list to date, including input from tonight's meeting.) Ginny Nappi seconded the motion. Motion carried.

The Pastor Nominating Committee will be: Dave Seyller, Cathy Rinehart, John Tuttle, Lloyd Weisemann (upon his acceptance), Kathy Tosh plus three or four more members to be chosen from the congregation.

Nearly fifty responses have come in regarding the church needs for the mission purpose statement. Rev. Bell encouraged all to ask for more written responses so the entire church is canvassed. Suggestions to date:

  • More representation/Action from our church in local mission
  • Strong pastoral care going to the persons in need
  • Christian education, a pastor who is an educator
  • Continued service to older adults
  • Small group ministries
  • Leadership for needs of growing families, especially in the neighborhood
  • A networker in the community
  • Parenting/grandparenting/single adults/childless couples needs
  • Administrative/clear congregational communication methods are prime
  • Friendly and outreaching

Rev. Jim spoke briefly about his current big responsibilities (which we all appreciate):

  • preaching
  • teaching
  • local mission and presbytery mission
  • small groups (may take this over)
  • many administrative responsibilities, especially with the current building addition project.

E'Lane Tufts will be taking over a lot of home visits that Vickie made.

Cathy Rinehart made a motion the meeting be adjourned. Steve Barwick seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Rev. Bell closed the meeting with prayer at 9:05 p.m.
