Call to order by Moderator Rev. Jim Bell. Devotions and prayer were led by E'Lane tufts. Her topic was prayer, "Ask, Seek, Knock."

Roll Call. Dave Seyller moved and Judy Lindsay seconded that we excuse Steve, Mons and Matt W. Motion carried. Jon Thetard was present from the Class of 2008.

Treasurer's Report: Net operating total year to date (June 30) — $9,954.92

Pastor's Report: See upcoming dates.

Clerk's Report:

  • Minutes of Session, June 29. Correct per diem to per capita.
  • Minutes of Committees: Marketing (June 29), Christian Ed. (July 6), Adult Ed. (July 6), Children's Ministries (July 6), Property (July 11), Personnel (July 13), Mission (July 13), Stewardship (July 13)
  • Communion Served — July 3, 2005
  • Current Active Membership — 503
  • Deaths — Robert Briggs (July 18, 2005) and Helen Walker (July 20, 2005)
  • Baptisms — 0
  • Marriages — 2, Fred Fuess and Mary Slye on June 29; Jeff Corrington and Brandi Harmon on July 9
  • Requests of members to return to active membership: Cindy Schrantz and Kelli Aiello
  • Invitation to become involved in Presbytery of Great Rivers. Committees available were noted.

Clerk's Report was accepted as presented.

Old Business:

  • Nominating Committee — Lloyd Wiesemann presented the following in a motion. Dave S. seconded it. Motion carried. Jim Bell thanked Lloyd for his hard work. Requested approval of the following appointments (which completes the work of this committee for 2005):

    Gifts and Memorials: Mary Dahlstrom-Salic (3 years)
    Personnel: Don Fehrman (3 years); Sue Deatrick (3 years)

New Business:

  • Mission Committee — John Crew moved and Jim Bouas seconded that we add Restoration Christian Church as a validated mission of our church in order to legally donate money to Rev. Santana's congregation. Motion carried.
  • Terry Tosh moved and Cathy Rinehart seconded that we honor a request from Darren Brant's Small Group (and the Marketing Committee) to sponsor a sale in Great Hall of "Things Worthy of Being Sold." Proceeds would go to Rev. Santana's congregation. Suggested date: Autumn. Motion carried.
  • Properties Committee — Jim Bouas moved that we buy a new copier as requested by the properties committee, a demo CannonIR 6000 for $6,200. Jim Bouas presented a sheet of research into various options. Terry Tosh seconded the motion. Motion carried. Money will come from the Building Fund as a capital item. Jim Bell cautioned us to give careful thought when buying things! The Session is responsible for minding the budget.

Upcoming dates:

  • Noisy Offering is this Sunday, July 31.
  • Next Baptism is September 18.
  • New elders ordained at both services September 18.
  • Only ONE Service (10:00) on September 4, December 25 and January 1. (December 11 — 11:00)
  • October 2 — Rev. Jack Porter will preach as Rev. Bell will be in Delavan for 150th Anniversary.
  • August 21 and October 16 — Peacemakers will have guest preachers.
  • Communion will be served at both church services on August 7, September 11, October 2, November 6, November 27; December 24 at 11:00 p.m., December 25 at 10:00, December 31 at 6:00 p.m.
  • Rev. Bell will be on vacation August 16-23, 2005.
  • Presbytery of the Great Rivers — October 28-29. Plan to attend!
  • Willow Creek Small Group Conference — September 22-24. All are welcome. The church has prepaid for five small group members to participate from the small group budget.

Other discussions:

Rev. Bell has asked presbytery to consider having Rev. Santana's congregation to be a presbytery-wide mission cause. He also asked presbytery about a matching grant to help sponsor this McLean County Spanish church.

Cathy Rinehart, Health Ministries, noted that the AED cabinet is now installed.

Judy Lindsay, Stewardship, invited all to participate in the "Train Fest" on August 28.

Kathy Tosh, PNC (Pastor Nominating Committee) reported that two candidates have been chosen for phone interviews. More candidates (PIF's) have been requested from presbytery.

Jim Devore will be recognized for his retirement on Sunday, July 31, at coffee time.

Kathy Tosh explained that our church is now supporting both Sheridan and Brigham Schools for school supplies. See the wish lists on the hallway counter.

Rev. Bell said that all area Presbyterian churches are now joining together to challenge other denominations in the community Sharefest in September. Much help will be needed!!

Next meeting: August 24. Devotions will be led by Kathy Tosh. Meeting was closed with prayer by Rev. Jim Bell at 8:15 p.m..
