Opening Prayer and Devotions: Ginny Nappi

A motion was made and seconded to excuse noted members. Carried.

Treasurer's Report:
February 29, 2004 balance: $10,192.33
The auditor is still making adjustments. Report will be approved next month.

Ralph Rodriguez was examined and presented by the Rev. Jim Bell. Jerry Parsons made the motion, seconded by Barb Lemmon, that we accept Ralph as a new member. He was accepted by reaffirmation. Welcomes followed.

Pastor's Report:
This was a combined business and study night.

Clerk's Report:

  • Approval of minutes February 18, 2004 stated meeting. Motion carried.
  • Record of serving Holy Communion — Sunday, March 7, 2004. Both services.

Session Agenda:

New Business:

  • Building Task Force presentation of lowest bidder for church addition was given by Jon Ten Haken. Mons Schrantz made a motion that we accept the lowest bidder of Felmley Dickerson for $1,487,700. Steve Miller seconded the motion. Motion carried.
  • Christian Education Search Task Groups report was given by Personnel Chair, Jay Reece. Session voted to keep the Christian education positions split into two part-time positions and not to interview anyone for one full-time position. The search committees headed by Kurt Swearingen (Children's Education) and David Seyller (Youth Education) presented Kelly Marion and Josh Clemons, respectfully, to fill the positions of 30 hours/week each. Discussion followed. Ginny Nappi made the motion to accept the candidates. Cathy Rinehart seconded the motion. Motion carried. Ginny Nappi asked session to give a special thank you to E'Lane Tufts for volunteering much time coordinating the Christian education tasks.
  • Steve Barwick, Properties Committee, presented the City of Normal request for an easement to straighten the ditch on the church property. Mons Schrantz made a motion we allow the easement. Steve Miller seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Study Session: "Writing Your Life Purpose Statement"
Elders worked in pairs. NOTE: Elders are to complete their statements and share them at the next study session.

Information:

  • Maundy Thursday — April 8. Elders are to tell Mons if they are willing to serve as a host/hostess at a table for The Last Supper meal. He needs, at least, fifteen.
  • Communion will not be held on the first Sunday of April. It will be held on Easter, April 11 instead.
  • Ground Breaking — Sunday, April 18 at 12:15 p.m.
  • Youth Talent Night — April 25
  • Honor Gifts and Memorials Sunday — May 2
  • Special Session Meeting — May 12 at 6:30 p.m. to accept Communicant's Class (Barb Lemmon)
  • Confirmation Sunday — May 23
  • Pentecost Sunday — May 30
  • Vacation Church School — July 18-22
  • Cathy Rinehart will lead devotions and prayer at the April 28 meeting.

Jim shared that he will be away for 48 hours of rest and relaxation on March 25-27 and that Pastor Kintzel is making good progress after eye surgery.

The meeting was adjourned with prayer at 9:00 p.m.
