Construction begins ... the race is on!

Construction began on the new addition the week of April 11th. With each passing day, we can see the construction moving very quickly! Many of you have been asking what the addition will look like inside when it is finished. Here is a description of what the new floor plans show.

On the main level,

The existing great hall will extend through part of the present child care room leading to—

    • a corridor extending across the entire back side of the church
    • two outside vestibule entrances located at each end of the corridor
    • two inside entrances from the corridor opening into large fellowship hall

The present child care rooms will remain, though somewhat smaller, and the present music room area will become a conference room with—

  • an adjoining kitchenette
  • a large room for storage

On the lower level,

In the present space—

  • three classrooms
  • a multipurpose area
  • an adult music room

In the present corridors next to the existing stairs—

  • two additional restrooms on the south end
  • a storage closet on the north end

In the new addition—

  • seven new classrooms
  • a mechanical room
  • two offices
  • an adult education space

Everything else, the storage and mechanical room, kitchen, restrooms, and elevator, will remain the same.

In the next couple of weeks, we will display the new floor plan for your review. If you have any questions, please see members of the Building Committee.

Ground breaking ... in the wind

One hundred fifty plus people braved the wind for the groundbreaking celebration. At least it was sunny and dry. Right on time (after starting to count off, just to bug Vickie!), Pastor Jim opened the ceremony with prayer. We were honored by the presence of Stacy Keach, the architect and his assistant, as well as John Meek of Felmley-Dickinson, the general contractor. Both Mr. Keach and Mr. Meek spoke highly of the work of the Building Committee and the pleasure of working with Pastor Jim and all of our staff. We already know how wonderful they all are, but it's always nice to hear it from others. John Ten Haken spoke on behalf of the committee and returned the compliments. A good working relationship can only enhance the building process. Following the brief speeches, lots of clapping and posing for photos, Pastor Vickie closed with a blessing.

Construction schedule

Now that construction has begun, you may be asking yourself when will the construction be complete, or what is going on when. We have tried our best to roughly outline what will be happening the in the future, however, weather conditions will directly impact the schedule.
