The need for additional space in our church building is evident.
The ministries of the church are growing and their successes
have outgrown the physical ability to hold them all.
The church no longer has an area
for all-church gatherings and fellowship. There is no additional
space for Christian education. It is a challenge for a church
group to reserve the lounge or Fellowship Hall without at least
a month's
notice. First Presbyterian Church has had to shut its doors to
other outside groups, such as Alcoholics Anonymous, who were looking
for our help.
As this problem became more acute, First
Presbyterian Church's Vision Committee asked Cargill
Associates, a stewardship development firm dedicated to raising
funds for
churches and organizations, to work with us. In February 2002,
Cargill led a visioning workshop for members of First Presbyterian
Church. During this two-day
workshop, those in attendance confirmed the need for a building
addition and supported efforts to begin the process. Church
members were later asked to complete questionnaires to determine
the
level of commitment to this building project. Cargill compiled
the results. As a result, session voted unanimously to go forward. |
